Thanks to all who took the time to attend our meeting on Thursday evening. I think you’ll agree that the effort was well worth it as we heard three excellent presentations from very deserving charities, and the friendly camaraderie was evident as the room buzzed with chatter and laughter before and after the business portion. The decision on which charity to get our votes was a tough one but in the end the Blooming House Women’s Shelter came out on top. Co- Founder and Director of Development, Liz Corney, did an awesome job of telling our group about the difference the Blooming House is making in the lives of women in our community who are experiencing homelessness. The other deserving presentations were from PEI Ground Search and Rescue and Big Brothers, Big Sisters PEI. While the ballots were being counted, we heard an update from Roberta Cosgrove, Manager of Winter St Men’s Shelter about the services made possible with our donation. I think you’ll agree that the effort was well worth it as we heard three excellent presentations from very deserving charities, and the friendly camaraderie was evident as the room buzzed with chatting and laughter before and after the business portion. The decision on which charity to get our votes was a tough one but in the end the Winter Street Men’s Shelter operated by the Native Council of PEI came out on top. Shelter Manager, Roberta Cosgrove (supported by her colleague Matt) did an awesome job of telling our group about the difference the Shelter has made in the lives of homeless persons in our community. The other deserving presentations were from Camp Kier and Big Brothers, Big Sisters PEI. While the ballots were being counted, we hear an update from Alex Corbett, Executive Director of Camp Abegweit about plans for a new washroom/shower facility made possible with our donation. Executive Director, Alex Corbett did an awesome job of telling our group about the tremendous difference the Camp has made in the lives of many Island children. The other deserving presentations were from the the PEI Federation of Foster Families and the the Nature Conservancy of Canada. While the ballots were being counted, we hear an update from Susan Doucette, Coordinator of the East Prince Palliative Home Care Fund about the comforts for patients made possible with our donation. Thanks to all who took the time to attend our meeting on Thursday evening.The decision on which charity to get our votes was a tough one but in the end the East Prince Palliative Home Care Fund came out on top. Home Care Coordinator, Susan Doucette did an awesome job of telling our group about the tremendous difference the Fund can make in helping palliative care clients in our region achieve their end of life goals. The other deserving presentations were from the International Children’s Memorial Place and the Humane Society. While the ballots were being counted, we hear an update from Community Inclusions about the plans for a sensory room for clients made possible with our March donation. Members please get your monies in as soon as you can so we can deliver $11,200 to the winner.
